>> [ the Meta vs the Microsoft! ]
Microsoft wants to beat Meta at its own game
- thanks rob!
This week, Microsoft announced its own entry into the metaverse — and its early vision sounds a lot like Meta’s.
Per Casey Newton at Platformer, both companies are all-in on:
VR headsets: Meta has Oculus Quest, and Microsoft has HoloLens
Digital avatars: Microsoft Teams is adding 3D avatars and using AI to listen to a user’s voice and animate their avatar, while Zuck revealed Meta’s Codec Avatars that closely mimic users’ appearance (oddly, as Newton pointed out, both companies avatars are legless)
Virtual workspaces: Both companies revealed virtual whiteboards and other collaborative settings that position the metaverse as a place to get work done

Athletic Shoe Giant Nike Looks Poised to Tackle Metaverse and NFTs: Report
- thanks jaime!
Several reports indicate that Nike is getting ready to step into the non-fungible technology realm and the footwear corporation may have been preparing to do so for a while now.
The senior correspondent at Business Insider’s (BI) retail desk, Matthew Kish, explains in a recent analysis that “Nike is going all in on its metaverse play.” The report discusses Nike’s recent U.S. Patent and Trademark Office filing published this week. A number of well-known trademarks Nike owns were also included such as the “Just Do It” tagline, its SNKRS logo, the Air Jordan “Jumpman,” and the Nike swoosh.
A report stemming from CNBC details that the firm is also waiting for confirmation on a patent called “Cryptokicks.”

Yahoo Finance Dropbox founder: We are gearing up for the metaverse
- thanks brian!
Bring on the metaverse, says Dropbox founder and CEO Drew Houston.
"Our strength is in content so helping get your stuff into that virtual world. So making what document or presentation you want to give... the infrastructure that we've built make that happen. So we're certainly integrating with the metaverse," said Houston.
"We want to help you get your stuff in and out of the metaverse from your Dropbox into the metaverse and vice versa, so creating that experience where everybody could be in the same virtual room and everybody could be seeing the same content."
>> [ Autodesk v1 = Buildings. Autodesk v2 = Metaverses! ]
Who's building the metaverse?
- thanks elizabeth!
Cloud software firm Autodesk (ADSK.O) makes programs used by architects and engineers to design and create buildings and products.
Its software is also used to build virtual worlds for gaming and entertainment.
>> [ Unity & Epic are world building engines! ]
The land of too many metaverses
- thanks david!
Companies are trying to build a fashion metaverse, an industrial metaverse, an entertainment metaverse, a gaming metaverse, a shark metaverse and so so many others. Everybody's also trying to brand their own metaverse, which sounds a bit like trying to slap your trademark on the internet.
The gaming industry is the worst: Satya Nadella argued recently that games like Halo, Minecraft and Flight Simulator are already metaverses, while Unity and Epic have both begun promoting their tech as metaverse-building engines.
THE DOPE IDEA & THE BRAND EXECUTION:
* Taking the idea and amplifying that into tactical action.
See you next week for the second half of our two-part report.
We’ll discuss on how to position ourselves as a new player in the Metaverse 🔥 space — and get into the development of the Brand IP, securing a legit Domain Name, then making it Internet LIVE.
