The average number of apps being downloaded in the U.S. is decreasing.
Though global download growth and the amount of time spent in mobile apps are both steadily rising, download growth in the United States is levelling off. A report by Comscore further supports this trend: In one quarter of 2019, two-thirds of smartphone users in the U.S. said they downloaded an average of 0 new apps per month.
Smartphone users spend 50% of their mobile app time in social and communications apps.
Not only are social apps the most frequently downloaded, but they are also where smartphone users are spending the biggest chunk of their time (50% of total usage time, to be exact). In second place are video and entertainment apps, like Netflix and TikTok, coming in at 21% of total usage time.

5 billion people in the world can send and receive SMS messages.
SMS messages have a whopping 98% open rate.
90% of SMS messages are read within 3 minutes.
Text messages have a 209% higher response rate than phone, email, or Facebook.
American smartphone owners aged 18-24 send around 2000 texts in a month. If you look at texting statistics by age, you’ll find smartphone users aged 18 to 24 text the most. In fact, they text twice as much as people aged 25 to 34 — and a whopping 10 times more than over-55 year-olds!

Mobile was the top-earning games platform in 2020

The mobile games industry broke its estimated 68.2 billion in revenues and generated 77.2 billion in 2020, equivalent to a 13.3 percent growth from 2019.
Since March 2020, there have been 28 million new gamers in the US, a growth rate of 28 percent. Meanwhile, at a staggering 50 percent increase, there are 8.6 million new players in the UK.
South Korea has experienced an influx of gamers with a rise of 34 percent, or rather 9.4 million individuals. Furthermore, many citizens in Germany also turned to games to entertain themselves, as it saw 6.5 million new players, an increase of 25 percent.
This year alone (2021), the global games industry, made up of 2.8 billion players, is expected to reach $189.3 billion in revenue.

Sensor Tower’s Mobile Game Taxonomy Report 2021: Hypercasual Accounts for Nearly One-Third of Downloads

The Hypercasual games market has exploded on mobile over the last few years. In 2017, the genre took a 17 percent share of downloads in the sector among the top 1,000 titles, putting it behind the Arcade genre, which accounted for 19 percent of installs.
One year later, Hypercasual became the largest genre for downloads, and it continued to expand its share further in 2020 to 31 percent of all installs.

Coin Master Hits the Jackpot as it Surpasses $2 Billion in Lifetime Player Spending

Social Casino mobile game Coin Master from Moon Active has surpassed $2 billion in lifetime player spending after a stellar year of growth propelled by the global COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns, according to Sensor Tower Store Intelligence. The title broke $1.2 billion in 2020 alone, up 122.4 percent from 2019, when it accumulated $539.6 million.
Casino was also the No. 1 category for downloads growth, increasing by 27.5 percent Y/Y.
Of the top 100 revenue-generating Casino games in the U.S. in 2020, Coin Master accounted for 13.9 percent of all revenue, generating $626.6 million in the country. The No. 2 ranked title was Slotomania from Playtika, which accumulated $302.8 million, or 6.7 percent of all revenue.
Coin Master was the No. 4 revenue-generating mobile game worldwide in 2020 across the App Store and Google Play, behind other hits such as PUBG Mobile and Honor of Kings from Tencent, and Pokémon GO from Niantic. Overall, it was one of a record six titles that generated more than $1 billion in player spending last year.
