>> [ World of Women NFTs are going Hollywood! thank you Reese Witherspoon! ]
- thanks kate!
Actor and producer Reese Witherspoon, through her production company Hello Sunshine, has optioned hit books like Wild, Gone Girl, Big Little Lies, and Little Fires Everywhere and turned them into hit movies and TV shows.
Now she’s ready to do the same with her favorite NFT collection.
Through a new deal announced on Thursday, Hello Sunshine will develop feature films and television series based on the Ethereum NFT collection World of Women (WoW).
NFTs are the unique tokens that exist on a blockchain like Ethereum or Solana and prove ownership of a digital or physical asset. World of Women NFTs are a profile picture (PFP) set by artist Yam Karkai.
Witherspoon told Variety that WoW holders will have the chance to get involved in the development and production process of these new World of Women media projects. The films and TV series will “expand their universe of characters.”
>> [ Marvel producer turns Ethereum NFT comics into a movie! ]
- thanks andrew!
The NFT-to-movie pipeline is spinning up, and another notable NFT project is set to make the leap from the blockchain to the big screen. Marvel film producer Ari Arad’s Arad Productions yesterday announced plans to turn artist Ben Mauro’s Ethereum NFT comic book project Huxley into a feature film.
Huxley is a science-fiction tale spread across six digital issues sold as Ethereum NFTs. Arad Productions has teamed with Web3-centric production studio Feature to create the film, and has enlisted Academy Award-nominated VFX supervisor Jerome Chen—a co-founder of Sony Pictures Imageworks—to help bring Mauro’s vision to a new format.
Arad has produced Marvel films such as “Iron Man” and “Ghost Rider,” as well as other entertainment adaptations, such as the newly-released “Uncharted” film. His father, Avi Arad, was a co-founder of Marvel Studios and has also produced an array of Marvel films from multiple studios, including “X-Men” and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.”
>> [ Leveraging NFTs to make indie films! ]
- thanks stephen!
Over the last year, crypto has increasingly made inroads into the film industry. Films have been distributed as NFTs, nascent DAOs have formed to help connect filmmakers with sources of funding, and filmmakers are exploring decentralized financing.
Now, a new wave of indie filmmakers is seizing the opportunity to break into the industry using cryptocurrency and NFTs to fund their projects.
"The first few films that get funded this way will have a place in history," writer/director Miguel Faus told Decrypt. "They will be pioneers in a new route that I think is going to be huge for indie filmmaking across the world."
Faus' debut feature film, "Calladita," kicks off its crowdfunding campaign on March 2—offering NFTs as rewards and unique perks for NFT owners who contribute to the raise.
